INFERNO: Apareceu em Rio Tinto (HELL: appeared in Rio Tinto) reflects a researching period generally centered on the sacred object. The research, articulation and discussion of the matter were made in several encounters that took place in different geographic points in Portugal, where icons, folklore, locations and other remnants of present and history were found and debated. Following this, came the object “toast”, a platitude – mirabillia that occupied the place of the sacred and of the work of art.

INFERNO: Apareceu em Rio Tinto is thus a collection of visitations on bread. Smudge, toast, frame, datasheet, organization, contemplative furniture, visitor, resemble the gallery space to a museum room, without being so.
The frame, frames a sliced loaf toasted with a contrast smudge that corresponds to a title, thereby closing the place of painting, which is completed by the visitor.
The popular undefined smudge toasted on the loaf – suggesting the figuration – relates itself to the revealed sign and to the personal readings of the individual believer, from which the homemade toast becomes a divine object by “the hand of a supreme being”.

The smudged toasts are the non-rationalized representation and the will of what arises by chance within a process of the substance itself, in which the toast, through the toaster medium – a household and available object – is the communication platform for the mystical experience, in which believing is seeing and seeing is believing.
Declaring the divine purism dissolution on the domestic mundane, the sacred toast is sold on ebay.

INFERNO: Apareceu em Rio Tinto reflecte um período de pesquisas genéricas em torno do objecto sagrado. As pesquisas obedeceram a sistema de rotatividade de encontros em diferentes pontos geográficos de Portugal, onde se encontraram e discutiram ícones, folclores, localidades e outros resquícios do presente e da história. Nesta sequência surgiu o objecto “torrada”, um mirabillia-de-trazer-por-casa que ocupou o lugar do sagrado e da obra de arte.

INFERNO: Apareceu em Rio Tinto é assim uma colecção de aparições no pão. Mancha, torrada, moldura, ficha técnica, organização, mobiliário de contemplação, visitante aproximam o espaço galeria a uma sala de museu sem o ser:
A moldura enquadra uma fatia de pão-de-forma torrado com uma mancha contrastada à qual corresponde um título, encerrando assim o lugar da pintura que é completada pelo visitante.
A popular mancha indefinida no pão – sugerindo a figuração – relaciona-se com o sinal revelado e com as leituras pessoais do indivíduo crente, a partir do qual a torrada caseira se torna objecto divinizado pela “mão de um ser supremo”.

As torradas manchadas assumem a representação não-racionalizada, dando lugar ao que surge pelo acaso num processo da própria matéria, no qual a torrada através do médium torradeira – objecto acessível e de foro doméstico – é plataforma de comunicação da experiência mística na qual acreditar significa ver, e ver implica acreditar.
